Furness College launched the South Cumbria Multi Academy Trust in May 2021 in a move to strengthen education across the area. Chetwynde School, in Barrow, was the first to join the Trust, improving education for young people through sharing staff knowledge and expertise, high-quality teaching and the College’s world-class facilities. Additional member schools are scheduled to join in September 2022.

With its long history of ship building and the presence of a large number of international employers, Barrow-in-Furness is a vibrant place to work and live. Only 12 miles from the Lake District National Park and 30 miles from the motorway network, the quality of life is second to none, with a relatively low cost of living. There are good schools, superb leisure opportunities and ready-made holidays on the doorstep.

With new member schools set to join, the Trustees are now seeking to appoint a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to further support us on our journey, providing leadership and management of all aspects of Trust finance. This is a new post in our Central Team and it offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, enthusiastic, experienced and professionally qualified Accountancy professional.

The CFO will provide leadership and management of all aspects of finance, as well as contributing to the strategic direction of the Trust. All the work of the CFO will be rooted in ensuring benefit to the pupils and communities the Trust serves.

As a key member of the Trust’s Senior Leadership Team, the CFO is expected to bring a modern, business-like approach, providing a highly competent and efficient service with an emphasis on business partnership. The CFO will provide advice on strategic financial issues and be responsible for financial management and for the leadership and management of the business function.

In addition, the CFO will contribute to strategy and policy development, which will include regular reporting to the Trust Board and the production of high quality reports to enable them to make informed financial decisions.

The appointee will develop and deliver proactive, customer focused service. The Trust is expected to grow over the next three years and the post-holder must have the ability to forecast an efficient robust operating model in this period as well as leading on the appointment of either internal resources or external service contracts to ensure that all financial support provided to the current and future schools meets end-user demands at all times.

South Cumbria Multi-Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and staff. Safeguarding checks will be undertaken including an enhanced DBS check with barred lists and references.

Safeguarding responsibilities specific to this role can be found in the job description.
